Building excellent social work services
This guide enables social work services to carry out self-evaluations. SWIA created it in partnership with colleagues in Changing Lives. We have also worked closely with volunteering local authorities in drafting and testing the materials and involved the Improvement Service. We intend that this guide will remain relevant as the structures for social work and social care scrutiny and regulation go through changes in the years ahead.
Please click here to download.
We will formally launch the Guide on 11 February 2009.

The Scottish Government announced in January 2008 that it will work with the Parliament and stakeholders, including local governement, to make improvements in scrutiny and complaints handling.
These improvements are mostly in response to the report published by Professor Lorne Crerar into regulation, audit, inspection and complaints handling of public services in Scotland (Crerar Review).
On 6th November the Cabinet Secretary for Finance and Sustainable Growth made a further statement about changes to structure. A copy can be found here. He also published a supporting document which can be found here.
Alexis Jay said "The Government's proposals offer an improved way forward to the scrutiny of social work and social care in Scotland by bringing together three separate elements into one body. This unified approach should make for better assurance to the public and to Parliament that the most vulnerable in our society are properly supported and cared for.
The Social Work Inspection Agency looks forward to playing a full part in shaping the new organisation.
